I am so excited to share with you the reveal of our Modern + Vintage Powder Room!! Those of you who follow us on Instagram know that we completed this project a couple of months ago, in the sense that it has been functional for a while now. However, I finally got around to adding accessories, and now, this space feels complete!
When we bought our house, we knew we would need to add a bathroom - quickly! There was only one bathroom and it was located on the second floor. This made for an odd situation when guests came over, or when Mike and I were spending time downstairs.
Luckily, there was a large open space to the left of the stairs near the front door that was sitting empty and begging to be utilized. We managed to carve out a mudroom, coat closet, pantry, and powder room from that space!
My inspiration for this bathroom was the craftsman style details found throughout the rest of our home. It was important to me that this bathroom looked like it was original to the home. To me, this meant millwork was a must! We installed a craftsman style wainscoting on the wall and I fell in love with the vintage yet modern vibe it created.
Next, I chose a large scale floral wallpaper and champagne bronze fixtures to balance out the clean lines of the wainscoting and add a bit of whimsy and romance! The original plan for the wainscoting was to keep it white, but once we saw it next to the wallpaper, we knew the wainscoting needed a bold color to make the florals pop. I took the wallpaper to home depot and they mixed a gray paint color to match the floral pattern exactly. Together, the floral wallpaper, wainscoting and champagne bronze fixtures live in harmony with each other.
Choosing a vanity for the space was fairly easy because there are only so many vanities that are this small! I chose this black vanity to anchor the space and provide as much storage as possible.
Styling this space was really fun. Whenever I get to create a space that my friends and family will be interacting with, I get excited. I love thinking about little details that will delight people. For example - the pops of fresh greenery is unexpected in a powder room, but welcome none the less! And the items placed out next to the sink are with guests in mind.
Lastly, I was excited to have some blank walls in this room to fill up with art work! The four gold frames straight ahead hold four prints from our trip to Paris. The line drawing to the right of the sink is a piece of artwork my friend made. The painting behind the sink was gifted to me by a close friend.
Thank you so much for coming by to learn about our powder room! I would love to hear your thoughts and questions. Please enjoy a complete list of sources below!
